Putting off the procrastination.

'I'll do it later, mom!'

'Yeah, fine! I'll finish it tomorrow!'

'Geez, it'll take, like, five minutes, I'll do it in some time. Why are you on to me about everything?!?'

Does this sound familiar?

In this article, I'll be talking about something so common, it's now an inseparable part of our lives: Procrastination- the root of all evil.

Why do we put off everything to do later? Why is it that we humans have some sort of automatic voicemail that says 'I'll finish it later' the moment we're asked to do something.

Some people blame modern technology, and especially the Internet, for the rise in procrastination rates over the past few decades. How many times have you began searching for information online and then became distracted by other sites? And before you know it, hours have passed and you are still without the original information you were seeking. When the procrastinator finally does “get around to” the task, there is not enough time to do it well. The task is more stressful and is done less well, than if there were plenty of time.

When faced with a decision to make or a task to complete, we usually rely on our self-control to push ourself to get things done. Furthermore, our motivation, which is based on the expectation of receiving some reward for our efforts (thank you, dopamine), can support our self-control, and make it more likely that we will get things done promptly. If there's nothing in for you at the end... that's when you start to procrastinate. Simply put, we procrastinate because our self-control and motivation, which might be made difficult by factors such as exhaustion and rewards that are far in the future, are put off by negative factors, such as anxiety and fear of failure.

Occasionally, ask yourself to do the task the minute it's given to you. Yes, it might sound impossible to do in the start, but eventually, you'll get the hang of it. Push yourself. It might be hard at first, but when you start to get it, it'll pay off.

So instead of putting off the task, put off your procrastination.
