An interesting thing about social media, is that it makes you feel like you’re not good enough. Usually, that’s a bad thing and we’re supposed to stay away from things that bring negativity into our life, but for some reason, we tend to be very attracted to this; some people, to a point where it becomes an obsession and you tend to alter your personality or behavior in order to “fit in”. It comes up to a certain point where one comment can change your life. For the many who have been through the dark side of the internet, or social media, there are certain things that can turn your world upside down. Some instances make you believe you’renot enough. But that is wrong. That is nowhere close to reality. Sadly enough, reality is not all cupcakes and rainbows, because the truth is that no one is enough. The people who self actualize, who are kind to one another and who bring each other up instead of putting people down are always close to being their true selves, hence, being enough for this world. Researches show that 13 to 66% of people fall into depression due to defects like body shaming, threatening content etc. This form of media can bring you false information, which can be dangerous in some cases. Especially during an epidemic, like the current corona virus situation we all are in right now. While the cruel side of social media defies everything I stand for, there are many up sides too. It’s a platform which gives you opportunities to learn, to put out your talents forward and a chance to bring positivity into your lives by becoming friends with the right people. Some even make a living out of it. With teenagers in the recent times, privacy is one of the main priorities. For most parents, understanding and respecting that actually brings them closer to their kids. Sometimes pushing teens into the right path can still cause distress, because it’s their decision to make. Afterall, they are eventually going to live their life and make major decisions on their own. Now, socializing can make a major impact in everyone’s lives. It is very important to have people who understand you, support you and most importantly understand your need for personal space and privacy. One thing to keep in mind at all times is that relying on people is not always a good thing, humans tend to be backstabbing even when we don’t realize it. Social media can either change your life and make you happier or turn your smile upside down. These options are based on what you make of it. It’s always your choice. There are obviously going to be downsides, but the way you pick yourself up is what matters. The way you treat others is what matters. It’s not enough to be kind, but the way you respond to hate defines a part of you. Being the bigger person does matter, as the saying goes “You never know the true face of a man until you give him power.”
Your way of being true to yourself can only be defined by you. Make your life worth it. Be kind to one another, and use social media as a platform to spread positivity.
